Do women talk more than men? We all know women like to talk, but Italian women top the list. Italian women speak up to 6,000-8,000 words a day.
In addition, they utilize 2,000-3, 000 vocal sounds to communicate. That’s not all. Add to that 8, 000 -10, 000 gestures, facial expressions, head movements, and other body signals.
In total Italian women use a daily average of more than 20,000 communication words and gestures to communicate their messages.
There is no doubt Italians are masters at using non-verbal communication: they communicate more with their body than with their mouth. They use their hands to emphasise what their words.
What about other western women?
Western women use up to 80% of that figure.
That explains why the British Medical Association reported that women are four times more likely than men to suffer from jaw problems.
Women’s specific communication style means they talk more.
Studies show that men do more of the talking at work and women do more of it in the home, mostly to instruct, converse and preserve relationships.
A woman with a to-do list will verbalise the list out loud in an indiscriminate order, listing all the options.
Many men find this distracting and lose their concentration, especially if they are in the middle of carrying out a task.
But often men find female natter irritating, and in reality, they don’t always have to.
(Men can talk more in longer more serious conversations, and that can be irritating to women. That’s a topic for another blog!)
This is especially true in relationships.
Communication is a huge issue in relationships, but not in the way most realize it. In fact, most people I coach are oblivious to it.
I deal with it head-on in my Master Relationship Course - Happier Relationships.
