96% of Women Lie

A survey on attitudes to truth and relationships found that 19 out of 20 women admit lying to their partners or husbands.

  • 83% owned up to telling "big, life-changing lies.”
  • 13% admitted they lied frequently.
  • 50% admitted that were they to become pregnant by another man but wanted to remain with their partner, they would lie about the baby’s actual father.
  • 42% would lie about contraception to become pregnant, regardless of the wishes of their partner.
  • 31% shockingly owned up they would not tell a future partner if they had a sexual disease.
  • 65% of single women would not tell a future partner if they had a sexual disease.

In a poll of 5,000 women (That’s Life! Magazine) 45 percent confessed they told "little white lies" on most days.

Many women lie to avoid hurting their partner’s feelings.

Another survey found that:

  • 73% would not tell a man if he was hopeless in bed (although a third would tell their friends all about it).
  • 46% said they had faked orgasms
  • 55% admitted claiming they were tired, had a headache, or felt ill to "get out of lovemaking".

The National Scruples and Lies Survey 2004 revealed that lies are told over the Christmas period.

  • 78% said they would pass off a second-hand gift as a brand new present.
  • 50% told a lie about a Christmas card being "lost in the post.”

It could be argued that the little white lies simply make the world go round a little more smoothly.

However, the big lies can damage lives.

Men’s lies are more self-oriented, while lies women tell are more other-oriented.

Men tell selfish lies more often than women do. Women lie too, yet sixty-eight percent said they did not trust their partner.

Lying is a slippery slope, and we’re all guilty of finding ourselves in a situation where we feel the need to lie.

Habitual lying is damaging and can affect our wellbeing, relationships, and career.

Couples must create an environment where being truthful is welcomed with understanding.
